I just uploaded “Rust Belt Rising Podcast #2” to - listen now!

(description via Slashdot):

We have plenty of HDD space and broadband internet. Why don’t we demand full CD quality audio in an accessible format from online music stores? The advantage of lossless compression is not only the small audio quality improvement, but better future-proofing and converting capabilities. FLAC is a good, free and open format, well suited for this job.

Talk About Body is the debut album from MEN, the new project from LE TIGRE’s JD Samson, cult icon and leader in the LGBT community.  MEN is a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective, where JD is joined by Ladybug Transistor’s Michael O’Neill and Ginger Brooks Takahashi.  Recently signed to IAMSOUND Records, the band have also already completed US tours with both Peaches and Gossip, as well as a recent European/UK run and a headlining West Coast tour.  Selling out the physical copies of their debut self-released EP “MEN”, the band will be releasing their debut album “Talk About Body” via IAMSOUND on February 1st, 2011.

MEN focus on the energy of live performance and radical potential of dance music. Their music speaks of issues such as wartime economies, sexual compromise, and the demand for liberties through lyrical content and an inventive, high-energy stage show.

The group began in 2007 with the DJ/production/remix team of LE TIGRE members JD Samson and Johanna Fateman. With LE TIGRE on hiatus, when the duo began to write new songs, it made sense to merge their efforts with JD’s other new project HIRSUTE. JD and Hirsute members Michael and Ginger now comprise the core of MEN, with Johanna and artist Emily Roysdon contributing as writers, consultants, and producers.

Wharf Rats!

So our admin Jeff (LIVEFASTDIEAWESOME) was pretty stoked about this news and wanted to share it with all of you fine people.

Chris #2 of Pittsburgh’s Anti-Flag and P.O.S. from Minneapolis hip hop collective Doomtree have paired up as Wharf Rats.  They apparently came together and recorded a couple of songs on the Warped Tour and plan to issue the songs as a limited edition 7” on No Sleep Records on May 31st.  Hopefully they’ll collaborate together again in the future!

If you want to hear a track from the 7”, click the link below.  And then go up top and follow all of the above on Twitter.  And then buy their collective discographies.

Pre-order the 7” here:

I know you tried so hard to package joy. You try to sell us things which are already ours,

Delivering taut, straightforward rock & roll with sharply interwoven guitar lines, muscular rhythms, and a melodic sense that splits the difference between indie rock and garage-influenced punk, Brooklyn, NY’s the Obits are a band with an impressive pedigree — guitarist and vocalist Rick Froberg was previously a member of Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes, while fellow guitarist and singer Sohrab Habibion is a veteran of Washington, D.C., indie rockers Edsel. Jason Crock of Pitchfork Media describes the band’s sound as “dueling guitars that have refined the echo and twang of surf and rockabilly into a sharp edge, basslines that are less walking than swaggering, drums too respectful and too evil for elaborate fills.”

"The newest collection of orchestral rants from the world’s premier gang of anarchist glamour ghouls.

With a full horn section, baby grand piano, punk guitar, 5 string bass and dueling male and female vocals-freedom fightin; the punk-as-world-music cult channels Phillip K. Dick, Kurt Weill and Jonathan Richman on their 13th release.

Pushing boundaries, grudges, genres, heartstrings and parole conditions from the cow-punk thump of track “Disarming Smile” to the heartbreaking samba of “13 Years Without Peter King;” Anarchy and The Ecstasy shows Inferno with a refined songwriting style and virtuosic playing. Plus the attitude you’ve come to expect from the kids in “I Am Sick of People Being Sick of My Shit”.

For people who like: dressing up and breaking things, red wine, sustainable rebellion, stage-diving and a better world.”
