An interesting note about record shops from one of our admins.  Oh, who the f*ck am I kidding?  Let’s start over.
An interesting note about record shops that I wrote on my personal Tumblr account.

So I found this to be pretty funny.  I had always heard about small retail stores going to the big box outlets to buy CDs because it was cheaper that way, but I never knew if I actually encountered it.
The big stores like Best Buy, Target or Wal-Mart sell CDs for less than they pay for them because they figure that it will draw people into the store to buy other stuff.  Well, since they’re selling them for less than the distributor is, people that own small record stores and chains are also coming in and buying those cheap CD’s for their own shops.  It’s cheaper for the small chains and mom & pop record shops to go to Best Buy than it is for them to buy them directly from the distributor or label.  There’s a bit of irony in there.
So I work for one of these small chains and I never knew if my company was one of the ones who found it cheaper to send someone from corporate to a big box store to snatch up CDs for our stores.  Then I came across this Reel Big Fish CD at work the other day that had an awkwardly placed sticker of the chains logo across the front.  Our chain is not big enough to have any sort of “exclusive” release from any band, let alone a national act like Reel Big Fish.  I peeled back the sticker to reveal the big yellow Best Buy tag beneath.
You probably don’t care, but as someone who’s been in and around various factions of the music industry since I was 18, I found it to be pretty hilarious and worth making note of.
